Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using OpenFundi, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and agree to comply with these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use our platform.

2. What OpenFundi Is

OpenFundi is a location-based job platform connecting skilled Ugandan artisans, workers, and job seekers with clients who need their services. The platform supports three distinct user roles:

• Clients — individuals or businesses looking to hire skilled workers
• Workers — artisans and skilled professionals who offer their services
• Job Seekers — individuals actively looking for employment opportunities

OpenFundi acts as an intermediary that facilitates connection between parties. OpenFundi is not an employer, employment agency, or party to any agreement between users.

3. User Accounts

• You must provide accurate and truthful information when creating an account
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• You may create only one account per email address
• Your phone number and email address cannot be changed after account creation
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms

4. Worker Profiles and Verification

Workers create public profiles that include their name, trade, location, bio, hourly rate, and profile photo. Worker profiles are publicly visible to all platform visitors and to search engines.

OpenFundi offers an automated verification badge system. A worker earns a verification badge when their profile meets certain completeness criteria (profile photo uploaded, trade selected, phone number provided, and bio written). The verification badge indicates profile completeness — it does not represent an endorsement of skills, quality, or trustworthiness by OpenFundi.

Workers are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information in their profiles and for fulfilling any agreements made with clients.

5. Job Postings

• Any registered user (Client or Worker) may post a job listing
• Job posters are responsible for the accuracy and legality of their listings
• All job listings are reviewed by OpenFundi before being published
• OpenFundi may remove job listings that violate these Terms or are otherwise inappropriate
• Job posters must provide a valid contact email and phone number — these are used for job-related communication but are not displayed publicly on the listing

6. Job Applications

Job seekers can apply for open jobs by submitting a multi-step application that may include a cover note, education history, work experience, certifications, skills, desired salary, and work schedule preferences.

• Applications can be edited by the applicant while the status is "pending"
• Once an employer reviews, shortlists, rejects, or hires an application, it can no longer be edited by the applicant
• When an application is submitted, the applicant's name, email, and phone number are copied into the application as a snapshot to preserve the information at the time of application
• Applicants are responsible for the accuracy of the information in their applications

7. Hiring and Contact Disclosure

OpenFundi mediates the hiring process to protect user privacy. The following rules apply:

• An employer can view an applicant's full application (education, experience, certifications, cover note) but cannot see the applicant's email or phone number until the application status is changed to "hired"
• When an employer changes an application status to "hired," the applicant's email and phone number are revealed to the employer
• Hiring an applicant automatically closes the job posting — no further applications are accepted
• An employer may reopen a previously closed job posting. Reopening a job automatically changes the status of all non-rejected applications to "rejected"

Employers must treat applicant personal information (including email, phone, and application data) with confidence and use it solely for the purpose of the hiring process.

8. Closed Jobs

When a job is closed (either manually by the job poster or automatically when someone is hired), the job listing remains visible on the platform but no new applications are accepted. Closed job listings display a "Closed" indicator and cannot be applied for. Job posters may reopen a closed job at any time from their received applications dashboard.

9. User Conduct

You agree to:

• Use the platform only for lawful purposes
• Provide accurate and truthful information in your profile, job postings, and applications
• Not engage in fraudulent or deceptive practices
• Not attempt to disrupt or compromise platform security
• Respect the rights and dignity of other users
• Not use another user's contact information for purposes unrelated to a legitimate job or hiring interaction
• Not create fake profiles or impersonate others

10. Geographic Search

OpenFundi provides region-based search and filtering across Uganda. Your stated location is automatically classified into one of four regions (Central, Eastern, Northern, or Western) for search purposes. Search results may be filtered by region, and entering a region name or "Uganda" in the search bar will return results across the relevant geographic area.

11. Limitation of Liability

OpenFundi provides the platform on an "as is" basis. We are not liable for any damages, losses, or disputes arising from interactions between users. We do not guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of services provided by workers, nor the reliability of information provided by job seekers or clients. Users engage with each other at their own risk.

12. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Account deletion requires password verification for security. Once deleted, your profile, job postings, and application data are permanently removed from our platform. This action cannot be undone.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to OpenFundi at our discretion, without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, the platform, or third parties.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Uganda. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction in Kampala, Uganda.
